Williams, William Carlos: Egy öreg hölgy ébresztgetése (To Waken An Old Lady in Hungarian)

Portre of Williams, William Carlos

To Waken An Old Lady (English)

Old age is
a flight of small
cheeping birds
skimming
bare trees
above a snow glaze.
Gaining and failing
they are buffeted
by a dark wind—
But what?
On harsh weedstalks
the flock has rested—
the snow
is covered with broken
seed husks
and the wind tempered
with a shrill
piping of plenty.

Egy öreg hölgy ébresztgetése (Hungarian)

Az öregség:
csipogó kis
madarak röpte,
hó-zománc fölött
pőre
fákat karistol.
Lendülve, bukdosva
verődnek
a sötét szélben –
De lám csak!
Nyers gyomok szárán
megül a madárraj,
a havat
üres maghéj borítja,
s a szelet megszelidíti
a bőség
harsogó füttye.
