Longfellow, Henry Wadsworth: A nyíl és a dal (The Arrow and the Song in Hungarian)

Portre of Longfellow, Henry Wadsworth

The Arrow and the Song (English)

I shot an arrow into the air,

It fell to earth, I knew not where;

For, so swiftly it flew, the sight

Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,

It fell to earth, I knew not where;

For who has sight so keen and strong,

That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak

I found the arrow, still unbroke;

And the song, from beginning to end,

I found again in the heart of a friend.

A nyíl és a dal (Hungarian)

Nyilat lőttem ki czéltalan,

Szállt, földre húllt és oda van;

Röptét oly gyorsnak véltem én,

Hogy szemmel nem követhetém.

Egy dalt zöngtem ki czéltalan,

Szállt, földre húllt és oda van:

Mert látja: e bármi fürge szem,

Hogy a röpke dal hová leszen?

S utóbb egy tölgyfa háncsaiban

Megkerült épen a nyilam:

S a dalt is hibátlan meglelém

Egy baráti értő szivben én.
