Sylvester, Joshua: Autumnus (Autumnus in Hungarian)

Portre of Sylvester, Joshua

Autumnus (English)

when the leaves in autumn wither,

with a tawny tanned face,

warped and wrinkled-up together,

the year's late beauty to disgrace:

there thy life's glass may'st thou find thee,

green now, gray now, gone anon;

leaving worldling of thine own,

neither fruit, nor leaf behind thee.

Autumnus (Hungarian)

Mikor az ősz lombja sárgul,

szárad, mint a ráncos arc,

s szél kavarja az avart

szép év-vége csúfságául:

életednek ez a tükre:

zöld volt s már szürkén zuhan,

s névtelen és magtalan

tűnsz el a földről örökre.
