Hodgins, Philip: A halál oka (The Cause of Death in Hungarian)

Portre of Hodgins, Philip

The Cause of Death (English)

Suddenly I am waiting for slow death.
In the small hours I am groping towards
the kitchen worrying about the soft
collision, wondering when it will be.
I can hear the gum tree in the garden
creaking away like sex in the next room
and can see most of my life frame by frame
with the frightened sight of the condemned man.
Returning to an empty bed gone cold
it occurs to me that becoming one
in a hundred thousand has wed nothing
except what might have been another end.
The cause of death is in the blood and bone.
It breeds in the past, feeds on the future.

A halál oka (Hungarian)

Hirtelen várom a lassú halált.
Hajnal felé tapogatózva indulok
a konyha felé, félek a puha összeütközéstől,
mégis várom a bekövetkeztét.
Hallom az eukaliptuszfa nyikorgását
a kertben, akár a hitvesi ágyét a szomszédos
