Nash, Ogden: Állati versek - 5. (Bestial poems - 5. in Hungarian)

Portre of Nash, Ogden

Bestial poems - 5. (English)

The Octopus

Tell me, O Octopus, I begs
Is those things arms, or is they legs?
I marvel at thee, Octopus;
If I were thou, I'd call me Us.

The Ant

The ant has made herself illustrious
By constant industry industrious.
So what? Would you be calm and placid
If you were full of formic acid?

The Termite

Some primal termite knocked on wood
And tasted it, and found it good!
And that is why your Cousin May
Fell through the parlor floor today.

Állati versek - 5. (Hungarian)

Az oktopusz

Ó, oktopusz, azt mondd meg legalább,
Hogy mért oly sok tenálad a kéz meg a láb?
Ha menetelve összeütköznek, az kész karambol.
Ha neked volnék, többes számban beszélnék magamról.

A hangya

A hangyát azért dícséri ezer torok,
Mert szorgalmas, folyton sürög-forog.
Na és? Nem volna-e Ön is szorgalmasabb,
Ha ösztökélné belülről a hangyasav?

A termeszhangya

A termeszhangya őse fára bukkana,
És látá őtermeszsége, hogy jó a fa.
Ennek következtében sógornőm a héten
Keresztülzuhana egy fafödémen.
