Pethes Mária: The taste of silence (A csend íze in English)

Portre of Pethes Mária

A csend íze (Hungarian)

Lucian Blagáért

Jelenidőben mesélni rólad, az ölelésről, hogy
Isten ne érezze magát olyan árvának bennem.
Elmondani, hogyan fekszel szerelmed ölében
az égről alácsorgó, olvadt fényben, hallgatod
a fülledt messzeségből egy templom harang-
bongását. A szeretett nő árnyékába dőlsz, haja
dédelgetőn körbefonja arcod, csókja mézében
a csend ízét ízleled. Egymást karoljátok a parton
és lelketek így, összeforrva a végtelen ösvényén
marad. De rendületlenül hiszitek, mindig jönnek,
akik vérükben lobogó szenvedéllyel tovább folytatják
a kettészakadt mesét. Most ötvennégy szökevény
május után lelked bennem dalol, és emlékedben
szabadon lélegzik Isten.

The taste of silence (English)

For Lucian Blaga

To tell stories about you in the present tense, about the embrace, so God won't feel himself so orphaned within me. To relate how you lie in the lap of your love in the molten light drizzling from the skies and listen to the clang of bells from a church in the sultry distance. You lean into the shadow of the beloved woman, her hair weaves itself caressingly around your face, you taste the taste of silence in the honey of her kiss. You link arms on the shore and your souls so joined, remain on the path of infinity. But unshakably you believe that some, with fluttering passion in their blood, will always come and continue the tale torn in twain. Now, after fifty-four fugitive Mays, your soul sings within me and in your memory God freely breathes.
