Amikor a jégbe törött hattyú érzi halála közelgését, utolsó, egyetlen énekébe, mit nem hall senkisem, beleadja összes intenzitását, erejét. És énekel, míg lassan köréje nem fagy a víz.
Haldoklásának hosszú pillanataiban pillanatai követik csupán, honnan tudni hogy énekel, vajon miről, hogy hangja-éneke különös- szép, és vajon hová lesz az egyetlen, az utolsó.
Őt nem látni, ő mégis lát, a köréje fagyott víztükrön át halvány hattyúalakot, színre át homálylón, mint ahogyan még sohasem, mégis, mintha már látott volna. És homályló alak néz rá távoli, fürkésző pillantással, hűvös, személytelen kíváncsisággal, az észrevétel legcsekélyebb jele, szándéka nélkül.
