Hajnal Éva: Ötvenedik

Hajnal Éva portréja

Ötvenedik (Magyar)

Hideg volt azon a régi napon.
Egyik lábamról a másikra álltam.
Akkoriban sosem volt meleg cipőm.
Talpammal recés ritmust rajzoltam a ropogó hóba.
Csak titokban néztem föl.
Fürkésző, sajnálkozó, kíváncsi pillantások feszültek a tátongó sír körül.
Együttérzésmorzsák.
Éhes cinegék csipegették fel őket a fagyos földről.
Aztán jött az a robaj, a cinegék felröppentek.
Rádobták a földet a koporsóra.
Ketten.
Talán nem tudták, hogy Édesapám fekszik ott.
Az is megeshet, hogy már nincs a koporsóban,
csak nem vettem észre, amikor elment... - ezt gondoltam.
A két lapát szeleteket hasított a hantokból.
Csak a munkájukat végezték.
Utána majd hazaindulnak, a családjuk várja őket.
Az a hang semmihez sem fogható.
Üvölteni akartam.
Akartam üvölteni.
Bent rekedt.
Amikor megszólalt a bányászinduló,
akkor sem értettem semmit.
Szerencse fel?
Hová?
Kinek a szerencséje?
Ilyen a bányász élete?
Milyen?

Az ötvenedik november
ma rozsdazubbonyban vacog.
Még dacol bennem a hétéves kisgyerek.
Lábammal mintát rajzolnék a hóba.
Már másmilyen a minta.

Fiftieth (Angol)

It was cold on that bygone day.
I switched from one foot to the other.
Never had warm shoes those days.
I drew a rippled rhythm with my sole in the crackling snow.
Only surreptitiously did I look up.
Searching, pitying, curious glances were straining around the gaping grave.
Crumbs of compassion.
Hungry tomtits pecked them from the frozen earth.
Then that loud noise came, and the tomtits flew off.
They threw soil on the casket.
Two of them.
Perhaps they didn’t know that my Dad lay there.
Could be, he is no longer in the casket,
and I just did not notice when he went... - that is what I thought.
The two shovels were cleaving slices from the clods.
They were only doing their job.
Afterwards they’ll start off for home, their families expect them.
That sound was like no other.
I wanted to scream.
Screaming is what I wanted to do.
It was trapped inside.
When the Miner's March song began,
I didn’t understand any of it then either.
Up with luck?
To where
Whose luck?
Such is a miner's life?
What is it like?

The fiftieth November
chatters in a tunic of rust today.
The small, seven-year-old child is still defiant in me.
I would draw a pattern with my foot in the snow.
By now the pattern is different.
