As if on an island (Angol)
Whatever would I say to mother if unexpectedly she'd call one day. Probably just quickly I could say, send word across, that we are pretty much OK, and say, how’re things with you, have you seen the new flowers on the grave, and did you hear the enquiry directed at us by your grandchild whilst scratching for ants. The question was which way do grannie's hands point, which way the feet. We just kept looking at each other, the child's mother and I whilst planting flowers, we would have started to explain something, but could be, we would just have pretended, it would have been too easy to reply. That is what made it almost impossible. The way I would not know just quickly what to say to mother if sometime, unexpectedly, she'd really call me and father and she would keep grabbing the receiver from each other’s hands as they never did whilst alive. It is as if they lived at peace on some island, this is the way now that evenings pass without them.
