Életrajz

Ada Aharoni is a poet, writer, and professor, who was born in Cairo, Egypt, and now, lives in Haifa, Israel. She has published 27 books to date, that have won several prizes and awards. She writes in English, French and Hebrew, and her works have been translated into several languages. She believes that literature and culture can help to heal the urgent ailments of our global village, such as war, conflict, and poverty, and the themes of peace and conflict resolution are major o­nes throughout her works. She studied at London University, where she received her M. Phil. Degree o­n Henry Fielding, and at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where she was awarded a Ph.D. o­n Saul Bellow: Nobel Prize Laureate (1976). She taught English Literature at Haifa University, and Sociology and CR: Conflict Resolution, in the department of Humanities, at the Technion in Haifa. She has been a Guest Lecturer and visiting professor at several American and European universities.

In 1949, her father, an export-import merchant, had his work permit revoked, and the Egyptian authorities confiscated the money he had transferred to a Swiss bank. The family moved to France, and Aharoni moved to Israel soon after, at the age of 16.

She is the Founder and World President of IFLAC: The International Forum for the Literature and Culture of Peace, as well as the President of the Second World Congress of the Jews from Egypt (WCJE), held in 2006. In 2012, she was awarded the Israeli President's Award for Volunteerism, for promoting peace initiatives between Jews and Arabs. In 2015, she was elected Honorary Citizen of Haifa (Yakir Haifa). As the first woman, she was invited to speak in the Mahmood Mosque in Kababir, Haifa (2012).
