St. Vincent Millay, Edna: A libapásztorlány (THE GOOSE-GIRL in Hungarian)

Portre of St. Vincent Millay, Edna

THE GOOSE-GIRL (English)

Spring rides no horses down the hill,
But comes on foot, a goose-girl still.
And all the loveliest things there be
Come simply, so, it seems to me.
If ever I said, in grief or pride,
I tired of honest things, I lied;
And should be cursed forevermore
With Love in laces, like a whore,
And neighbors cold, and friends unsteady,
And Spring on horseback, like a lady!

A libapásztorlány (Hungarian)

A tavasz nem lovon jön ám,
Libát terelő pásztorlány.
Minden, ami kedves nekem,
Ily szerényen jön, dísztelen.
Gőggel ha mondtam is olyat,
Nem érdekel, túl szimpla az;
Legyek akkortól átkozott,
Csipkékben szerető kokott,
Barát se, szomszéd se keressen,
Tavasz hölgy lóháton ügessen!
