      and thoroughly uncomfortable,

I have seen fishermen picnicking in the sun,

I have seen them with untidy families,

I have seen their smiles full of teeth

      and heard ungainly laughter.

And I am happier than you are,

And they were happier than I am;

And the fish swim in the lake

      and do not even own clothing.

O generazione dei profondamente soddisfatti di sé

      e profondamente inquieti,

Ho visto i pescatori far merenda al sole,

Li ho visti con le loro famiglie sbrindellate,

Ho visto i loro sorrisi pieni di denti

      e udito scomposte risa.

E sono più felice di voi,

Ed essi più felici di me;

E i pesci nuotano nel lago
