Thomas, Dylan: A szentesítő kéz (The hand that signed the paper in Hungarian)

Portre of Thomas, Dylan

The hand that signed the paper (English)

The hand that signed the paper felled a city;
Five sovereign fingers taxed the breath,
Doubled the globe of dead and halved a country;
These five kings did a king to death.

The mighty hand leads to a sloping shoulder,
The fingers' joints are cramped with chalk;
A goose's quill has put an end to murder
That put an end to talk.

The hand that signed the treaty bred a fever,
And famine grew, and locusts came;
Great is the hand that holds dominion over
Man by a scribbled name.

The five kings count the dead but do not soften
The crusted wound nor stroke the brow;
A hand rules pity as a hand rules heaven;
Hands have no tears to flow.

A szentesítő kéz (Hungarian)

A kéz, mely aláirt, egy várost tarolt:
öt királyi ujj torkon ragadott,
országot feleztek, holtakat dupláztak;
öt király királynak létjogot adott.

Eső vállakból erős kezek nőttek
köszvény-csomózta izületek, csontok
lúdtoll-vonásra szűnt meg a vérontás
ez tett a társalgás végére is pontot.

A kéz, mely aláirt, lázat okozott
sáskaraj nyomában éhínség eredt,
nagy a kéz mely odafirkált névvel
hatalmat gyakorol emberek felett.

Az öt király a holtakat számlálja
de nem simogat és nem gyógyít sebet
kéz szánalmat sugall, részvétét az égnek,
kezek nem hullatnak könnyeket.
