Masters, Edgar Lee: A Spoon River-i holtak - Lois Spears (Spoon River Anthology - Lois Spears in Hungarian)

Portre of Masters, Edgar Lee

Spoon River Anthology - Lois Spears (English)

Here lies the body of Lois Spears,

Born Lois Fluke, daughter of Willard Fluke,

Wife of Cyrus Spears,

Mother of Myrtle and Virgil Spears,

Children with clear eyes and sound limbs --

(I was born blind)

I was the happiest of women

As wife, mother and housekeeper,

Caring for my loved ones,

And making my home

A place of order and bounteous hospitality:

For I went about the rooms,

And about the garden

With an instinct as sure as sight,

As though there were eyes in my finger tips --

Glory to God in the highest.

A Spoon River-i holtak - Lois Spears (Hungarian)

Lois Spears, született Lois Flake fekszem

e sírban.

Neje voltam Cyrus Spearsnek,

anyja Myrtle Spearsnek meg Virgil Spearsnek,

két egészséges, szép szemű gyereknek,

bár magam vakon jöttem e világra.

A legboldogabb asszony voltam én,

feleség, anya, ki imádtam

családomat;

házunk az öröm, s a vendégbarátság

kastélya volt, hol szobáról szobára

jártam meg kinn a kertben,

oly biztos ösztönnel,

mint hogyha mind a tíz ujjam hegyén

egy-egy szemet viselnék –

dicsőség az Úrnak ott fenn a mennyben.
