Heaney, Seamus: Visszatérés (The Journey Back in Hungarian)

Portre of Heaney, Seamus

The Journey Back (English)

Larkin’s shade surprised me. He quoted Dante:

‘Daylight was going and the umber air

Soothing every creature on the earth,

Freeing them from their labours everywhere.

I alone was girding myself to face

The ordeal of my journey and my duty’

And not a thing had changed, as rush-hour buses

Bore the drained and laden through the city.

I might have been a wise king setting out

Under the Christmas lights – except that

It felt like the forewaned journey back

Into the heartland of the ordinary.

Still my old self. ready to knock one back.

A nine to five man who had seen poetry.

Visszatérés (Hungarian)

Larkin szelleme Dantét idézte:

Eltávozott a nap, megjött az éjjel

S a földi lelkek fáradalma, búja

Enyhén oszlott a barna légbe széjjel.

Csak én magam készültem háborúra

A szánalommal éppúgy, mint az úttal,"*

De a város nem várt semmi újjal,

Fáradt emberek ültek a buszon.

Lehettem volna karácsonyi égők

Alatt bölcs király - de inkább olyan

Érzésem volt, mintha a megszokottba

Tértem volna vissza, ahogy jósolták.

És én sem változtam. Kellett a vodka.

Hivatalnok, kit megrúgott a versláb.
