Keyes, Sidney: Háborús költő (War Poet in Hungarian)

Portre of Keyes, Sidney

War Poet (English)

I am the man who looked for peace and found

My own eyes barbed.

I am the man who groped for words and found

An arrow in my hand.

I am the builder whose firm walls surround

A slipping land.

When I grow sick or mad

Mock me not nor chain me;

When I reach for the wind

Cast me not down

Though my face is a burnt book

And a wasted town.

Háborús költő (Hungarian)

Én az vagyok, ki békét néz s szemében

Ott lóg a nyíl szakálla.

Én az vagyok, ki szót tapogat s kezében

Az íjat megtalálja.

Az építő vagyok, falam tövében

Csúszik a márga.

Ha beteg, vagy bolond leszek,

Ne csúfoljatok, ne kötözzetek;

Ha kapkodok a szél után,

Ne húzzatok a sárhoz –

Bár perzselt könyv az arcom

És puszta város.
