Hardy, Thomas: Országok megtöretése idején (In Time of „The Breaking of the Nations” in Hungarian)

Portre of Hardy, Thomas

In Time of „The Breaking of the Nations” (English)

I

Only a man harrowing clods

In a slow silent walk

With an old horse that stumbles and nods

Half asleep as they stalk.

II

Only thin smoke without flame

From the heaps of couch-grass;

Yet this will go onward the same

Though Dynasties pass.

III

Yonder a maid and her wight

Come whispering by:

War’s annals will cloud into night

Ere their story die.

Országok megtöretése idején (Hungarian)

I

Csak egy ember, csöndben lépeget,

felszántja a rögöt,

botladozó, elrévedett

öreg lova mögött.

II

Csak egy vékony füstcsík, lángja sincs,

de akkor is így száll tovább,

ha majd elmúltak sorra mind

a dinasztiák.

III

Csak egy lány meg egy fiú - a dicső

győzelmi krónika,

az semmivé lesz, de az ő

történetük soha.
