Hardy, Thomas: A különbség (The Difference in Hungarian)

Portre of Hardy, Thomas

The Difference (English)

Sinking down by the gate I discern the thin moon,
And a blackbird tries over old airs in the pine,
But the moon is a sorry one, sad the bird’s tune,
For this spot is unknown to that Heartmate of mine.

Did my Heartmate but haunt here at times such as now,
The song would be joyous and cheerful the moon;
But she will see never this gate, path, or bough,
Nor I find a joy in the scene or the tune.

A különbség (Hungarian)

Kapun át megyek le, vézna a hold odafönn,
A fenyőn rigó fütyörészi a dallamait.
De szomoru hold az, zord az a hangözön:
Aki drága nekem, nem járt soha itt.

Járt volna csak itt ilyenkor a szelleme, hát
Víg volna e fütty s mosolyogna a hold odafönn;
Sosem láthatja meg ő e kaput, sem e fát,
S nem lesz víg nékem e hely s e hangözön.
