Dunn, Douglas: Európa istennő szeretője XIV (Europa’s Lover XIV in Hungarian)
Europa’s Lover XIV (English)We watched them go by, in the countryside, The cities, in remote provincial districts, The brides and grooms of wealth and poverty. 'The dead outnumber them, the living are Such poor creatures. In time we shall retire To my garden, to a beloved place That is a museum of everywhere. There are the equatorial sculptures from Dahomey and Benin, and there are the dollars Minted from Incan silver, there the cross Worn by a priest martyred by Vandals, A stone thrown at the time of the Fronde, Skin flayed by the Inquisition and the eyes Of Galileo. And if you listen you can hear The dictionaries uttered on the air, The music of Bach and Mozart, the rhymes of Dante In my house built of night in the mountains And in my house built of noon on the puszta. I mean to be benevolent and wait. We will till the sun and shade, for purity And light are in themselves sufficient to us. I shall re-write the books of equity, Engender passion, justice, love and truth And weave a fabric of persuasive virtue. Sleep with me. You will be my many children, My messenger and my amanuensis. You have nothing to lose. Give me your life Again, and again, as I invent my cause. I am my own mother and my daughters. I love my people. 'Our Europe is not yours.' Together we will say that again, as, once, It was said by one of my sons to another son In the days of souls without names smouldering In the years of the counting of rings and teeth.'

Európa istennő szeretője XIV (Hungarian)Néztük, ahogy elvonulnak alattunk Távoli városok, megannyi vőlegény S menyasszony, hatalmasak, szegények. Többen vannak ők, a holtak. Az élők Oly szerencsétlenek. Idővel kertembe majd Megtérünk, e meghitt, drága helyre, A mindenütt múzeumába. Ott láthatod Dahomey és Benin Egyenlítői szobrait, inka ezüstpénzt, És a keresztet, mit a pap viselt, Ki vandálok kezétől halt mártírhalált. A követ, melyet a Fronde idején dobtak el, A bort, amit lenyúztak az inkvizítorok, S Galilei szemét. Ha figyelsz, hallod Sokszótárnyi szó mint kereng a légben, Hallod Bach s Mozart zenéjét, Dante rímeit A házban, mely hegyek éjéből épült. A házban, mely épült puszták deléből. Meglásd, jó leszek s türelmes. Megművelni elég lesz a Napot, Hisz tisztaság és fény lesz eledelünk. Átírom majd az egyenlőség könyvét, Teremtek igazságot, szerelmet, szenvedélyt, Szövöm a meggyőző erény szövetét. Légy a szeretőm. Te leszel számos gyermekem, A hírnököm s a krónikásom. Nincs mit vesztened. Életed add nekem, Add most, és újra add, míg én teszem a dolgom. Saját anyám vagyok és saját lányaim. Szeretem népemet. “A mi Európánk nem a tiétek.” Elmondjuk újra együtt, amit egykor Egyik fiam mondott másik fiamnak Akkoron, mikor névtelen lelkek égtek, Akkor, mikor gyűrűt s fogat aranyként szedtek össze.
