Smith, Stevie: Nem intettem, csak fuldokoltam (Not Waving But Drowning in Hungarian)

Portre of Smith, Stevie

Not Waving But Drowning (English)

Nobody heard him, the dead man,

But still he lay moaning:

I was much further out than you thought

And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking

And now he's dead

It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,

They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always

(Still the dead one lay moaning)

I was much too far out all my life

And not waving but drowning.

Nem intettem, csak fuldokoltam (Hungarian)

Senki se hallotta őt, a halottat,

hogy hörögve ott van:

messzebbre beúsztam, lehet, mint hinni lehetett,

s nem intettem, csak fuldokoltam.

Hogy szeretett ugratni, szegény fiú,

s most íme halott:

túl hideg lehetett neki, a szíve, mondják,

felmondta a szolgálatot.

De nem, nem, hiszen mindig is hideg volt

(míg hörgött valaki holtan),

túl messze úsztam be, mióta csak élek,

s nem intettem, csak fuldokoltam.
