Ashbery, John: Ez a szoba (This Room in Hungarian)

Portre of Ashbery, John

This Room (English)

The room I entered was a dream of this room.
Surely all those feet on the sofa were mine.
The oval portrait
of a dog was me at an early age.
Something shimmers, something is hushed up.

We had macaroni for lunch every day
except Sunday, when a small quail was induced
to be served to us. Why do I tell you these things?
You are not even here.

Ez a szoba (Hungarian)

A szoba, amibe beléptem, ennek a szobának az álma volt.
Bizonyára az enyémek voltak ezek a lábak a díványon.
Az ovális arckép
a kutyáról: én voltam fiatal koromban.
Valami vibrál, valamit elhallgattak.

Minden nap makarónit ettünk ebédre,
kivéve vasárnap, amikor rávettek egy kis fürjet,
hogy felszolgálják nekünk. Ezeket miért mondom el neked?
Még itt se vagy.
