I am unhappy that I am not God,
I talk to myself and listen,
hoping to find in this dialogue
a hint of Him. I do things
and measure them to find
God there, or, if not,
that this would prove
the opposite is true.
I would do this opposite
to become God. I think of it,
and when I must sleep
He puts me to rest.

Szomorú vagyok, hogy nem vagyok Isten,
beszélek magamhoz s hallgatom,
remélve, hogy e párbeszédben
lesz Róla szó. Dolgom teszem,
és méricskélem is, hogy benne
Istenre ráakadjak. Vagy ha nem,
hát ez legyen bizonyság,
hogy az ellenkezője az igaz.
S ezt akarom, ezt az ellenkezőt,
hogy Istenné legyek. Rágondolok,
s ha már muszáj aludnom,
Ő nyugtat el.
