Read, Herbert: Az elkötelezett szív (The heart conscripted in Hungarian)

Portre of Read, Herbert

The heart conscripted (English)

The shock of silver tassels
the sledded breath...
I who have fought my battles
keep these in a sheath.

The ulcer of exact remorse
from which the Lake poet perished,
the owl's indifferent hood -
these have vanished.

I hear only the sobbing fall
of various water-clocks
and the swift inveterate wail
of the destructive axe.

Lorca was killed, singing,
and Fox who was my friend.
The rhythm returns: the song
which has no end.

Az elkötelezett szív (Hungarian)

Ezüst csengők csengése,
szán friss uton...
megharcoltam ezért, s most
tokba dugom.

Költői gőg fekélye,
a Tavi Költő veszte,
a bagoly szenvtelenség
mind eltűnt messze...

Sokféle vizi-órák
zokogását hallom csak,
zuhanását makacs fejszéknek
ahogy rombolnak.

Lorcát megölték, dala közben,
s Foxot, barátomat.
A ritmus visszatér. Az ének
meg nem szakad.
