Davies, William Henry: Az Arató kocsma (The Harvest Home in Hungarian)

Portre of Davies, William Henry

The Harvest Home (English)

The Harvest Home's a home indeed;

If my lord bishop drank ale there,

He'd want to kiss the beggar wench,

And change his gown with her, I swear.

The Harvest Home's a place to love,

These is no better boose on sale,

Angels in Heaven – I take my oath –

Can find no better glass of ale.

There's courage in such boose as that:

Old Dicky drank but one small mug,

And then, to please the harvest girls,

Said, "Look!" and swallowed a live frog.

The landlord draws to suit my taste,

I never knew his wife to fail;

But, somehow, what the daughter draws

Is – by my soul and body – Ale!

Az Arató kocsma (Hungarian)

Az Arató a legjobb korcsma;

püspök urunk is izibe

kolduslányt csókolna sörétől

és gunyát cserélne vele.

Az Arató nagyszerű egy hely,

legjobban ott ereszt a csap!

s különb sört – fejem rá! – az égben

maga a fő-angyal se kap.

Kurázsi van abban a sörben:

vén Dani még alig szeszelt

s „Hé!", intett a marokszedőknek

s egy eleven békát lenyelt.

Érti gusztusomat a gazda,

a nő a javát adja föl;

mégis, amit ő mér, a lányuk,

az aztán – istenuccse – Sör!
