Fletcher, John: Aspasia éneke (Lay a Garland on My Hearse in Hungarian)

Portre of Fletcher, John
Portre of Károlyi Amy

Back to the translator

Lay a Garland on My Hearse (English)

Lay a garland on my hearse

Of the dismal yew;

Maidens, willow branches bear;

Say, I died true.

My love was false, but I was firm

From my hour of birth.

Upon my buried body lie

Lightly, gentle earth!

Aspasia éneke (Hungarian)

Koporsómra tiszafa

füzért tegyetek,

lányok, fűzet hozzatok,

híven haltam meg.

Ingatag volt a szeretőm,

szilárd voltam én.

Ó, föld, elhantolt testemen

feküdj könnyedén.
