O'Hara, Frank: Egy költőhöz (To a Poet in Hungarian)

Portre of O

To a Poet (English)

lam sober and industrious
and would be plain and plainer
for a little while
                         until my rococo
self is more assured of its
distinction.
                  So you do not like
my new verses, written in the
pages of Russian novels while I do
not brood over an orderly
childhood?
                  You are angry
because I see the white-haired
genius of the painter more beautiful
than the stammering vivacity
of your temperament.
                                  And yes,
it becomes more and more a matter
of black and white between us

and when the doctor comes to
me he says "No things but in ideas"
or it is overheard
                           in the public
square, not that I am off my couch.

Egy költőhöz (Hungarian)

Józan és szorgalmas vagyok,
és egy ideig egyszerű és
dísztelen leszek
                          míg rokokó
énem nem bízik jobban
saját kiválóságában.
                           Szóval
nem tetszenek az új verseim,
amiket orosz regények lapjaira
írok, és nem kotlok egy rendezett
gyerekkoron?
                   Mérges vagy, mert
szebbnek látom a festő őszülő
zsenialitását,
mint temperamentumod
dadogó lendületét.
                        És igen,
köztünk ez már egyre inkább
fekete-fehér,

és amikor az orvos meglátogat,
azt mondja „Nincs más csak az ideák”
és ezt mások is meghallják a téren,
                                                miután
már elhagytam a kanapét.
