Smith, William Jay: A szeretők (The Lovers in Hungarian)

Portre of Smith, William Jay

The Lovers (English)

Above, through lunar woods a goddess flees

Between the curving trunks of slender trees;

Bare Mazda bulbs outline the bone-white rooms

Where, on one elbow, rousing by degrees,

They stare, a sheet loose-folded round their knees,

Off into space, as from Etruscan tombs.

A szeretők (Hungarian)

Fent, egy istennő menekül a holdas erdőn át

Sudáran kanyargó törzsek körülte a fák;

Pőre Mazda-izzó fénynél a csontfehér szobák

Ahol könyökölnek, nagyon lelkesen

Bámulnak –nincs lepel térdeiken-,

Ki az ürességbe, mint etruszk szarkofág.
