Cohen, Ira: Felszállás (Taking Off in Hungarian)

Portre of Cohen, Ira
Portre of Gyukics Gábor

Back to the translator

Taking Off (English)

Black clouds over Amsterdam

as we start again for the Bangkok

standby at Schiphol

bound for Cambodia

These are not Baudelairean clouds

& the far away is right inside me

like Van Gogh’s cypresses or the

kindred spirit in my heart’s ravine,

the bare shouldered child

or old woman squatting in front

of a massive stone head sleeping

a dreamless sleep.

Flying over Thailand Marina

speaks of a place where people

describe their lives as “listening

to the rice grow.”

Felszállás (Hungarian)

Fekete felhők Amszterdam felett

amikor ismét Bangkok felé indulunk

készenlétben a Schipholon

irány Kambodzsa

Ezek nem baudelaire-i felhők

és a messzeség bennem van

mint Van Gogh ciprusai vagy

egy kedves lélek szívem szurdokában

a meztelen vállú gyermek

vagy a masszív kő előtt guggoló

álomtalanul alvó

öregasszony.

Thaiföld felett repülve Marina

arról a helyről beszél, ahol a benszülöttek

életüket a „figyelni a rizs növekedését”

kifejezéssel írják le.
