Monro, Harold: Az óceán Londonban (The Ocean in London in Hungarian)

Portre of Monro, Harold

The Ocean in London (English)

In London while I slowly wake

At morning I'm amazed to hear

The ocean, seventy miles away,

Below my window roaring, near.

When first I know that heavy sound

I keep my eyelids closely down,

And Sniff the brine, and hold all thought

Reined back outside the walls of town.

So I can hardly well believe

That those tremendous billos are

Of iron and steel and wood and glass;

Van, lorry, and gigantic car.

Az óceán Londonban (Hungarian)

Ocsúdva reggel lassudan

Londonban, ámulat fog el:

a tenger zúg – bár messze van –

az ablakomhoz oly közel.

Ha hallgatom nehéz dalát,

szemem bezárom, és agyam

– míg szívom tajték-illatát –

csak városon kívül suhan.

S a szívem alig érti meg,

hogy e roppant hullámsereg

vas és acél, fa és üveg:

gigászi kocsi-fergeteg.
