Crane, Stephen: A tudós (A learned man in Hungarian)

Portre of Crane, Stephen
Portre of Tótfalusi István

Back to the translator

A learned man (English)

A learned man came to me once.

He said, "I know the way, -- come."

And I was overjoyed at this.

Together we hastened.

Soon, too soon, were we

Where my eyes were useless,

And I knew not the ways of my feet.

I clung to the hand of my friend;

But at last he cried, "I am lost."

A tudós (Hungarian)

Jött hozzám egyszer egy tudós

és szólt: "Jer, tudom az utat."

Roppantul örültem neki.

Együtt siettünk.

Hamar, nagyon hamar oda értünk,

ahol már nem vettem hasznát szememnek,

és azt se tudtam hova lépek.

Barátom kezébe fogóztam,

de ő így kiáltott: "Eltévedtem!"
