Crane, Stephen: Volt egy fanyelvű ember (There Was a Man With Tongue of Wood in Hungarian)

Portre of Crane, Stephen
Portre of Tótfalusi István

Back to the translator

There Was a Man With Tongue of Wood (English)

There was a man with tongue of wood

Who essayed to sing,

And in truth it was lamentable.

But there was one who heard

The clip-clapper of this tongue of wood

And knew what the man

Wished to sing,

And with that the singer was content.

Volt egy fanyelvű ember (Hungarian)

Volt egy fanyelvű ember,

aki énekelni próbált,

s bizony ez siralmasan sikerült.

De valaki, hallva,

hogy' kerepel a fanyelv,

megértette, amaz

mit akar énekelni,

és ennyi elég is volt a dalosnak.
