Castro, Michael: Találkozás (Coming together in Hungarian)

Portre of Castro, Michael

Coming together (English)

for Adelia

Where the Mississippi & Missouri meet
I met you, princess of the Nile.
We smiled across the table of Kansas
with its gigantic bouquet of corn.
You drew me toward you like the sea
does a river like the sun a flower
like some vast black hole in space
pulsing with contained light;
you swallowed the white night, wrapped me
in your Afric cloak, filled a bowl
with herbal smoke & pulled long & deep
& I drew too the musky draft
long & deep like the Mississippi itself
long & deep winding down from the frozen north
to southern marshy climes.
The dark willows of the south enfolded us
the balconies of New Orleans
the tomb of its voodoo queen
Marie Leaveau we stood below
its white stone face, streaked with human blood
& graffiti'd with cryptic scratches left by feline souls;
& we drew again long & deep
swallowing the night of flaming crosses
robed & hooded riders
limp bodies swinging `neath the shadows of trees
Negress & wandering Jew
we swallowed these sad histories - -
nazis, billyclubs, snarling dogs, inquisitioners,
massahs, priests & governors
whirling in the smoky Mississippi - -
enslavement in Egypt, America, the body
whirling & winding in the smoke up to the sky
white as the bones of the death camps
white as the tufts of cotton plants
white & whirling in the night

Your Moses came floating to you
on a raft of vegetation
buoyant with meditation
He saw himself reflected in your eye
A pharoanic sigh clouded overhead
The spirits of the dead clucked their tongues
Out of the jungle came a rumble of drums.
A dixieland trumpet cried over the river
crumbling levi walls inside our minds
letting it rush & wind
freely to the open sea
bearing you & me
& the burden of our history
bearing you & me
on the wawes of sacred mystery

Találkozás (Hungarian)

Adéliának

Ahol a Mississippi és a Missouri egymásba folynak
ott találtam rád, Nílus hercegnője.
Átmosolyogtunk Kansas platóin
óriás virágú kukoricák fölött.
Úgy vonzottál magadhoz mint tenger a folyót
mint nap a virágot
mint mérhetetlen fekete lyuk az űrben
lüktető fénnyel tele;
lenyelted a fehér éjszakát, betakartál
Afrika-köpenyeddel fűszeres füsttel töltöttél meg
egy tálat, hosszan és mélyre vontál
és én is megrajzoltam pézsma-vonalát vázlatomnak
mélyet és hosszút mint a Mississippi maga
mély és hosszú szél kalapál a fagyott észak felől
a déli mocsárvilágba.
A déli táj sötét fűzei,
New Orleans erkélyei,
a vudu-királynő sírja burkolták be testünk
Marie Leaveau fehér kőarca
emberi vérrel csíkozott macskalelkek karcolta
s rejtélyes graffiti alatt álltunk
és merültünk egyre, hosszan és mélyen
nyeltük a lángoló keresztek éjszakáját
vágtató köpenyes-csuklyás lovasok árnyait
ernyedt testek himbálóztak a fák árnyékaiban.
A négusnő és a bolygó zsidó
nyeldestük e történelmi szomorúságokat - -
nácik, gumibotok, vicsorgó ebek, inkvizítorok,
rabszolgatartók, kormányzók, papok
örvénylünk a füstös Mississippin - -
a rabszolgaság Egyiptoma Amerika, a test
a füsttel az égbe forog és elrepül
fehéren mint a haláltáborok csontjai
fehéren mint a gyapotültetvények bozontja
fehéren örvénylünk az éjszakában

Mózesed lebegett feléd
a vegetáció tutaján
meditálón, reménykedőn
Szemedben látta meg tükörképét
Egy fáraói sóhaj magasodott felhőként fejünk felett
A halottak lelke nyelvét csattogtatja
Dzsungel dobok tamtamja dübörgött
Dixieland trombita sírt a folyó fölött
Elménkben lévi* roskatag falai
hagytak sietni, szállni a szelet
szabadon a nyílt tengerig
engem és téged hordozott
és történelmi terhünk
és megszülettünk
a hullámok szent misztériumán

A Nap Gyermekei - -
Férfi és Nő - -
Egyek

(száműzetésünk
   mindenttudó mosoly maszkjával takart)

* lévi: két ősi zsidó törzs neve
