Poe, Edgar Allan: Sör-gyöngysorok (Lines on Ale in Hungarian)

Portre of Poe, Edgar Allan
Portre of Tandori Dezső

Back to the translator

Lines on Ale (English)

Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain –
Quaintest thoughts – queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today.

Sör-gyöngysorok (Hungarian)

Döntsd a habját, töltsd a gyöngyét,
    Korsóm teljék friss sörön!
Járjon át, ha dúl, ha gyöngéd,
    Mámorszellem, friss öröm.
Holt habókok, vad vajákok:
    Fuss, csal-eszme, tűnj iszony!
Perc, csak percegj, mit se bánok:
    Gyöngysoros, friss sört iszom.
