Poe, Edgar Allan: A folyamhoz (To the river in Hungarian)

Portre of Poe, Edgar Allan

Back to the translator

To the river (English)

Fair river! in thy bright, clear flow
    Of crystal, wandering water,
Thou art an emblem of the glow
       Of beauty -- the unhidden heart --
       The playful maziness of art
In old Alberto's daughter;

But when within thy wave she looks --
       Which glistens then, and trembles --
Why, then, the prettiest of brooks
       Her worshipper resembles;
For in my heart, as in thy stream,
    Her image deeply lies --
The heart which trembles at the beam
    Of her soul-searching eyes.

A folyamhoz (Hungarian)

Szép folyam! fényes, ragyogó
        Vándorló vized kristálya
Olyan, mit a csodaszépség
        Vagy a nyilt szív ragyogványa; -
Vagy mint az a csodás játék,
        Mit tud vén Alberto lánya.

De fölcsillan és megremeg
        Habod, ha lánykám belenéz;
S akkor kedves, bájos folyam,
        Mint imádója, olyan lész;
Mert szívében éppúgy nyugszik
        Képe, mint habodba' lenn
És lelket ható szemének
        Sugarától - megrezzen.
