Keats, John: Ha rádöbbenek, hogy meghalhatok (When I Have Fears… in Hungarian)

Portre of Keats, John
Portre of Szabó Lőrinc

Back to the translator

When I Have Fears… (English)

When I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has glean’d my teeming brain,
Before high-pilèd books, in charact’ry,
Hold like full garners the full-ripen’d grain;
When I behold, upon the night’s starr’d face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And feel that I may never live to trace
Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance;
And when I feel, fair creature of an hour!
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
Of unreflecting love; – then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think,
Till Love and Fame to nothingness do sink.

Ha rádöbbenek, hogy meghalhatok (Hungarian)

Ha rádöbbenek, hogy meghalhatok,
mielőtt agyam termését behordtam,
mielőtt, mint dús csűrök a magot,
megőrzöm magam tornyos könyvhalomban;
ha nézem a csillagos éjszaka
arcán a nagy mese jelképeit
s érzem, hogy őket lerajzolni a
varázskezű sors nem soká segít;
s ha azt érzem - te tűnő árny, te szép! -
hogy már nem látlak viszont, s hogy soha
nem önti belém tündér erejét
a gondtalan csók - akkor, akkor a
mindenség partján állok, eltünődve,
s hír s szerelem semmivé omlik össze.
