Catharsis (English)

Beyond incorrigible death, childhood's small killings
are still blinking up at me as I hoisted the tale
of hay. All a tabby mother's love and cunning were
undone by the necessity of feeding out. I counted seven.
Their softness began to stir as I took them away
from the haystack's labyrinth. They caught on my jumper
like roses. Behind the machinery shed I plunged
their new warmth into a bucket and watched tiny bubbles
escape from the paralysed struggle. Two minutes expired.
They came out cold and bony. I put them in a sack
and threw it in the dam and watched it sink.
Today it floated to the surface.

Katarzis (Hungarian)

Ahogy felemeltem ezt a köteg szénát, gyermekkorom apró
gyilkosságai, éreztem, a visszafordíthatatlan halálon túl,
még mindig cinkosan kisértenek. Anyám majomszeretete és
praktikái egyszeriben szertefoszlottak, amint eljött az
etetés ideje. Hetet számoltam meg. Ahogy egyenként kiemeltem
őket a szénaboglya labirintusából, puhán mozgolódni kezdtek.
Belekapaszkodtak a pulóverembe, akár a rózsák. A kocsiszín
mögött egy dézsába nyomtam a fejüket, és figyeltem, amint
a kis buborékok bénító küzdelemben menekülni próbálnak.
Két percig, ha tartott. Amikor felbuktak a víz színére,
hidegek és véznák voltak. Betettem őket egy zsákba,
behajítottam a védőgát zuhatagába, és néztem, ahogy
elsüllyednek. Ma feljöttek a felszínre.
