Yeats, William Butler: Az irodalom tudorai (The Scholars in Hungarian)

Portre of Yeats, William Butler

The Scholars (English)

Bald heads forgetful of their sins,
Old, learned, respectable bald heads
Edit and annotate the lines
That young men, tossing on their beds,
Rhymed out in love's despair
To flatter beauty's ignorant ear.
All shuffle there; all cough in ink;
All wear the carpet with their shoes;
All think what other people think;
All know the man their neighbour knows.
Lord, what would they say
Did their Catullus walk that way?

Az irodalom tudorai (Hungarian)

Tar, bűnükfelejtett fejek,
Komoly, tudós, tar koponyák,
Verseket emendálni jók,
Mikbe szerelmi szívbaját
Sírta éjjel egy ifju be,
Hogy lágyuljon egy hölgy szive.
Mind fúj, nem vért, tintát köhög,
Mind puha szőnyegen csoszog,
Csak orruk hegyét ismerők,
Más fejével gondolkozók.
Mit zsonghatna e banda ma,
Ha így él jó Catullusa?
