Portre of Nash, Ogden
Portre of Israel Efraim

(Un)timely musings, 1 and 2 (English)

1. The Middle

When I remember bygone days
I think how evening follows morn;
So many I loved were not yet dead,
So many I love were not yet born.

2. Lines On Facing Forty

I have a bone to pick with Fate.
Come here and tell me, girlie,
Do you think my mind is maturing late,
Or simply rotted early?

(Rosszul) időzített meditációk, 1, 2 (Hungarian)

1. Az emberélet útjának felén...

Édes is, nem csak bús az időnek mulása,
Kivált ha tűnődöm a messzetűnt időkön:
Szeretteim soka nem volt még földbe ásva,
Szeretteim soka nem volt még születőben.

2. Negyven felé közeledve

Begyemben van a Végzetem;
Ezt meg kell beszélnem nejemmel.
Mit gondolsz, később jön meg az eszem,
Vagy időnek előtte ment el?
