Livesay, Dorothy: A legyőzhetetlen (The Invincible in Hungarian)

Portre of Livesay, Dorothy
Portre of Tótfalusi István

Back to the translator

The Invincible (English)

On ne devine jamais la puissance des arbres.
Henri Bordeaux*

In the dark garden
I hear strange rhythms
Rising and falling:
Deeper and deeper
The elms delve their arms
Into the helpless earth
And suck the young wines
Of spring.

Stronger and bolder are elms
Than blinded men.

*Henri Bordeaux (1870 – 1963) French writer’s Book: La Maison.

A legyőzhetetlen (Hungarian)

On ne devine jamais la puissance des arbres.
Henri Bordeaux*

A sötét kertben
Furcsa ritmusokat hallok,
Emelkedőket, esőket:
Egyre mélyebbre vájják
Karmaikat a szilfák
A tehetetlen földbe,
szopják a tavasz
Zsenge kacsait.

A szil erősebb s merészebb
Mint az elvakult ember.
