Johnston, George: Háború a periférián (War on the Periphery in Hungarian)

Portre of Johnston, George

War on the Periphery (English)

Around the battlements go by
Soldier man against the sky,
Violent lovers, husbands, sons,
Guarding my peaceful life with guns.

My pleasures, how discreet they are!
A little booze, a little car,
Two little children and a wife
Living a small suburban life.

My little children eat my heart;
At seven o’clock we kiss and part,
At seven o’clock we meet again;
They eat my heart and grow to men.

I watch their tenderness with fear
While on the battlements I hear
The violent, obedient ones
Guarding my family with guns.

Háború a periférián (Hungarian)

Fönn az erőd bástyafokát
Körbejárják a katonák,
Vad szeretők, férjek, fiak,
Puskával őrzik álmomat.

Egyszerű élveim sora:
Egy kis kocsi, egy kis pia,
Két kis gyerek s egy feleség,
És szerény kertvárosi lét.

Szívem falja a két gyerek;
Hétkor puszi s lefekszenek,
Hétkor már talpon mindegyik,
s míg felnő, szívemből eszik.

Gyöngédségük félve lesem,
s hallom, a bástyát járja fenn
A bősz s engedelmes csapat:
Puskák őrzik családomat.
