Johnston, George: Pihenő ebéd után (Rest Hour in Hungarian)

Portre of Johnston, George

Rest Hour (English)

Noises coming down the stairs,
Thumping noises, bumping chairs,
Roaring, whistling, muscle testing
Tell the hour of Andrew's resting.

Giant in his moods and grace,
Giant blood and giant pace,
He fills the hour after lunch
Fighting gods with heave and punch.

Grievous energies of growth,
Storms of pride and aches of sloth
Wrestle with his titan soul
And try to make it small and whole

In vain, obviously in vain,
Noises come downstairs again;
gods lunge and leap away
Knowing they'll win - but not today.

Pihenő ebéd után (Hungarian)

Fentről zúduló robaj,
Döngés, székzaj és dobaj,
Füttyszó, bőgés, torna hangja
Jelzik, Andrew hogy pihen ma.

Kedvre s bájra óriás,
Vérre s léptére gigász,
Sziesztáján ütve, vágva
Istenekkel száll csatába.

Bősz növés-energiák,
Gőg-roham s vad lustaság
Zúgnak át e gigászi lelken,
Sok kis és nagy isten ellen

Lázad hős-reménytelen;
Újra zúdul a lárma fenn.
Az istenek félreugornak
tudva: győznek, de nem maholnap.
