Kliphan, John: Bohém sírkert (Bohemian graveyard in Hungarian)

Portre of Kliphan, John

Bohemian graveyard (English)

When I left Boston for San Francisco
I didn't realize I was coming here to die
Didn't realize the source of that faint insistent pull
Didn't know that this was the ancestral burying place

The bone-white buildings of North Beach
            told me I was home

I circle the Dying Place now with the others
White-haired poets
Minds bleached clean and clear
Wise, weary, waiting

We circle and circle until someone drops
Only to be replaced by another
White of hair
Long of tusk

We make our daily rounds
Until we drop slowly
Each of us, one by one
Leaving our ivory for the hunters

Rovom a Haldokló Város utcáit,

S valaki új áll a helyébe
Fehér haj
Hosszú agyar

Nap mint nap járunk körbe-körbe
Míg lassanként ki nem dőlünk a sorból
Mindannyian, egyik a másik után
S a vadászoknak hagyjuk elefántcsontjaink
