Jóna Dávid: Fifty (Ötven évesen in English)

Ötven évesen (Hungarian)

Ötven éve születtem,
egy hétfői adásszünetben,
én voltam az, akinek pult alól jött a banán,
ha többre emlékeznék,
hidd el, elmondanám.

Negyven évvel ezelőtt,
a sorsomba belenőtt
a vers,
akkortól szeretem, ahogy dallamával, ritmusával ringat,
mikor izgalmas rendbe rántjuk homokóráinkat,
s képzeletünk társunkká lesz:
levetkőztet, lepikkelyez.

Harminc évvel ezelőtt voltam
pont húszéves,
irodalmi hűbéres,
zongora órán adtam-vettem,
magamban hittem, tévedhetetlen
sorok űzték sorsom az akkori mában,
leginkább a szenvedélyem szolgálatában.

Húsz évvel ezelőtt,
a versemnek keze nőtt,
s rögtön magával is ragadott,
némelyik sikert aratott,
s ezzel kicsit megemelt,
a taps megvolt, kár hogy a szívem hangszigetelt.

Tíz évvel ezelőtt, napra pontosan
negyven lettem.
Elestem, hát újrakezdtem,
száz helyen is megjelentem,
versek közben verssé lettem.

Öt éve már, hogy betöltöttem a negyvenötöt,
négyzetre emeltek, s belőlem vontak gyököt,
rangos lapok befogadtak,
több nyelvre is fordítgattak:

azóta is írok: tükörablak,
szétszedlek és összeraklak,
akit szeretsz, vidd el annak,
a verseimmel simogatlak.

Fifty (English)

I was born fifty years ago,
on a Monday with no tv, no show,
I was the one who got banana in secret sold,
if I remembered more,
believe me, I’d tell you all.

Forty years ago
there came in my fate inwrought -
poems,
I’ve been loving since then their cradling tune and rhythm,
when we twitch our sandglasses in order, thrilling,
and our fancy becomes our mate:
it makes us naked and scaled.

Thirty years ago I was
exactly twenty,
a literary liege,
I bought and sold them at piano class,
I had faith in myself, infallibly cast
lines chased my fate in that then-today,
mainly serving my own passions underway.

Twenty years ago
my poems had hands grown,
they had a grip on me right then,
some of them brought fair success,
so I was raised a bit higher, improved,
applause I had, bad luck my heart’s soundproof.

Ten years ago, exactly to the day
I became forty.
I tumbled, so I started again shortly,
I showed up in a hundred places, beheld,
through poems I became a poem myself.

It’s been five years since I became forty-five,
I was squared and from me a root extracted alike,
prominent journals accepted me,
I’m also read in other languages:

I’m still writing: a window-mirror,
I take you apart and put together,
please, get them to the one you love, dear,
I keep caressing you with my poems here.
