Szente B. Levente: Only Lack Hurts (Csak a hiány fáj in English)

Portre of Szente B. Levente

Csak a hiány fáj (Hungarian)

magas, domboldal alatt lakunk,
a város idelent - látod
odafönt a temetők,
a pillanat örök lesz,
jön a semmi, a halál, a félelem.
régi titkos vágyak nincsenek már, nincs
mi pótolhatná a csodát –
társadban az ölelést, a csókot,
a szerető és féltő odaadást.
mert nincs mi kellene, mit kívánsz, mi feltölti szíved-
lelked tartalmát, mit tovább adsz,
csak marad mi ott maradt, mint morzsák
a terítetlen asztalon
a falakon innen és túl, odaát,
csak a tűnődés jutott, mint örök és szép álom,
mert el ne feledd - isteni gondolatok közé
fészket rakott madár vagy:
költesz, nevelsz, tovaszállsz

Only Lack Hurts (English)

we live at the foot of a high hill,
the town’s down here – you see
up there the graveyards
embraced by the skies.
we now already feel only lack hurts, said grandma
no philosopher, poet, no cook, no doctor or painter
no lover, muse, no café,
they fall apart, get involved in stupid rebels,
for when unmeasurable time sets upon you
the moment becomes eternal,
nothingness, death, fear approach.
there are no more long-ago secret desires, nothing
to make up for miracles -
the embrace and kiss of your spouse,
the loving and caring devotion.
for there’s nothing to need, to wish, to fill your heart with -
and your innermost soul that you pass along,
there’s just left what was left behind, like crumbles
on an unlaid table,
on this and that side of the walls, over there,
only musing remained like eternal beautiful dream,
for you shouldn’t forget – set among divine thoughts
you are a bird having made a nest:
you hatch, breed and fly away
