Isten – akit bezsugorítottunk focimeccsek, áruházak
és szánalmas ünnepek megnyitóiba –
Áldd meg a magyart
Józansággal, bölcsességgel,
Meghasonult önmaga ellenségeként,
S saját támadásaiban
Védő karjaid meg sem találja már
Kapzsisága harsogva tépi darabokra önmagát;
Hozz nekünk őszinte és valódi esztendőt,
A múltban, s félek, hogy a jövendőben is csak
Bűnhődünk vakságunk, s hitetlenségünk miatt.
 
Bőséget csak igaz szeretetből kérek
Jókedvet és vígságot az ostobaság halotti torjára adj nekünk.
Védj meg Isten önmagunktól,
S tanítsd meg néped oly kincseket keresni,
Melyet a Te gazdagságodban találhatunk meg.
Isten, áldd meg a magyart!

God – whom we’ve squeezed in between football matches, supermarkets
and opening ceremonies of pitiable feasts -
bless the Magyar
with sobriety and wisdom,
who just like enemies divided against themselves
and in their own attacks
don’t even find Thy protecting hand,
their greed tears them with a howl into pieces;
bring us a sincere and real year,
in the past, and I fear in the future as well               
we keep atoning for our blindness and unbelief.
 
I’d like plenty only of true love.
Cheers and happiness grant us only to the burial feast of folly.
Protect us, God, from ourselves,
and teach Thy folks to search for treasures
only to be found in Thy wealth.
Oh, God, bless the Magyar!
