Éjjeli intermezzo (Hungarian)

Ködöt fúj a fagyos este,
e kőtájra települ,
lámpa fénye küzd remegve
életéért egyedül.

Az oszlopnak támaszkodva
egy glóriás asszony áll,
önmaga türelmes szobra,
vár vacogva – kire vár?

Bámulom mint látomásos
ezt a szelid alakot,
ő megérzi s rekedt-álmos
hangon hívó dalba fog.

Párák párnás gömbfalán át
megborzongva hallgatom
nem-várt vágyak vacogását,
s a lépéseket a havon.

Elszakad a kopott dallam,
fojtott szóváltás nesze…
Két rendőr közt indul lassan
a bűvkörből kifele.

Intermezzo in the night (English)

Misty clouds of eve assembling,
settle where the wind had blown,
light of lamp is struggling, trembling,
for existence all alone.

Woman glory-topped and dreaming
props a pillar in the gloom,
her statue of self, it's seeming,
quivers, waits, one asks for whom?

Visionary-like and staring,
I observe, my glance prolong,
she notes it, with croaky daring
voice begins her calling song.

Through billowing pillow hazes
I shudder, am hearing, lo:
unexpected urge-filled phases
and foot-falls upon the snow.

Then the time-worn tune had ended,
quiet words were being said…
twixt two coppers, apprehended,
from her charm-spot she was led.
