Süvölt a zivatar
A felhős ég alatt,
A tél iker fia,
Eső és hó szakad.

Kietlen pusztaság
Ez, amelyben lakunk;
Nincs egy bokor se', hol
Meghúzhatnók magunk.

Itt kívül a hideg,
Az éhség ott belül,
E kettős üldözőnk
Kinoz kegyetlenül;

S amott a harmadik:
A töltött fegyverek.
A fehér hóra le
Piros vérünk csepeg.

Fázunk és éhezünk
S átlőve oldalunk,
Részünk minden nyomor...
De szabadok vagyunk!
