Miről a büszke, Az elbizott ész Egy hangot sem bírt mondani nekem: Megmagyarázta, S mi könnyedén, azt Édes szerelmed, kedves hitvesem!
Flowering meadow of dawn (English)
Flowering meadow
Of dawn my soul is,
Eternal spring sun smiles on it each day;
Whatever god had
Dropped down to earth will
On it produce a constant bloom display.
One thing was missing:
The bloom of faith, that
is belief in a life past casket, bier,
And this, too, came up,
This, too, is blooming,
And this your loving kindness planted here.
About this proud and
Smug intellect could
Not utter even a lone sound to me,
Yet your love, dear spouse,
Explained so simply
All that will surely one day come to be!
The grave's not dark, but
Our eyes are blinded,
When we behold his radiant graces,
Which from beyond in
Such an uncommon
Miracle flood stream onto our faces.
Not the cold lairs of
Rot and decay are
Caskets, but vessels of much joy and cheer,
Carrying us from
This lovely life to
One which is nicer than what we have here.
There is but one thing
I'd like to know, where
Is that hereafter? Just how far and where?
And in what form will
We be arriving
Into that unknown region over there?
Do we as do a
Pair of nightingales
Keep flying star to star, or could it be,
That we, like two swans
Just gently roll there
Upon the seas of all eternity?
