Petri György: The coming winter (Tél lesz in English)

Portre of Petri György
Portre of Castro, Michael

Back to the translator

Tél lesz (Hungarian)

Elkésett virágok
tapogatóznak a hideg őszben.

Remélnek még
gyümölcsöt? A legszívósabb
darazsak is a téli

repedésekbe
húzódtak. Nem akarnak
semmit e szirmuk-ejtett
virágok,

csak összeütötte fejüket
a mindennel játszó szél.

The coming winter (English)

Late flowers are fumbling
in the cold fall –

Do they hope for fruit?
The most stubborn wasps
have withdrawn

into the winter cracks.
They don't want anything,
those flowers with their drooping,
dropping petals.

Only the playfully blowing wind
urged their heads together.
