Két arckép (Hungarian)

Marinak és Gyuszinak

BRONTË

A kocsisok beüzennek: jövünk.
És a vendégek: érkezünk.
És a lámpások átszelik
röpködve a teret, az udvart,
fénybe vonva az éjszakát,
a diófák törzsét, a szőlők
alsószoknyáját s a kőasztal
esőbe-szélbe mártott peremét.

Hát itt vagyunk.
Nyissatok ajtót.
Ez az utolsó éjszakánk.
Ez az utolsó vendégségünk.

Terítsetek.
Ágyazzatok.
Rakjátok meg a kályhát.
Eresszétek szabadon a kutyákat.

REMBRANDT

Atyai ház: hamuból és ecetből.
Csók és kézcsók: hamuból és ecetből.
Csukott szemek a sírban és az ágyban,
halálon túli fegyelemben.

Two Portraits (English)

To Mari and Gyuszi

BRONTË

The coachmen call in, ’We’re coming.’
And the visitors, ’Arriving soon.’
And the lanterns fluttering
cut across the square, the yard,
throwing light upon the night,
the walnut tree trunks, the petticoat
of grapes and the stone-table edge
dipped into wind-and-rain.

So here we are.
Open the door.
It’s our final night.
It’s our last feast.

Set the table.
Make the bed.
Put some wood on the fire.
Unleash the dogs.

REMBRANDT

Paternal roof: of ash and vinegar.
Kiss and hand-kiss: of ash and vinegar.
Eyes shut – in the tomb and in the bed,
in a discipline beyond death.
